The Drive to Sonora Pass

Rim Fire

We'd had some trepidation that this biggest recorded wildfire in the Sierra Nevada would spoil our trip, or part of it. It wouldn't be much fun to be cooped up indoors, breathing whatever cleanish air we could find.

Luckily, that never materialized. Some evenings there would be an accumulation of smog over the distance that shrouded the peaks, and a faint odor of burnt wood. During the day, everything remained clear, except maybe some discoloration and atmospheric effects on the distant horizon.
