Tioga Pass
The big cycling event of the trip is the 20 km climb from Lee Vining up Tioga Pass Road to Tioga Pass, with an altitude gain of not quite 1000 m (3230 ft). The Pass is at 3031 m (9943 ft), and the air thin. Thus begins a demanding series of switchbacks in and out of a headwind.
