As always, the first hour or two of the first day were difficult. From year to year, we adapt more and more quickly, but the thin air and steep, rocky grades always hit you full force and make you wonder if all the training had been worth anything at all.
After the extreme heat waves of the Bay Area summer, the cool air was very pleasant. -F.
