Mammoth Trip, 2019

September 16

Valentine Lake

When we returned to the condo, we discovered that the lights were out. Southern California Edison had cut the power to Mammoth because of the windstorm that howled outside and rattled the windows and doors. It took a couple of phone calls to the outside world to find out what was going on.

Luckily we had a gas range and gas heating, so we were able to cook dinner in the waning light of day. We went to bed very early but couldn't sleep much; and at 3 o'clock in the morning, the power was restored. Eventually we got to sleep to the hum of the refrigerator. -F.
