Canyon de Chelly 2

The White House Ruins.

The name derives from the cliff face whitewashed with maize pollen.
The upper section was only accessible from the lower level. The ruins are now cordoned off by a fence. They used to be accessible to the public, but eventually the rubble littering the ground disappeared and souvenir hunters began nibbling on the substance of this ancient pueblo.

Navajo merchants sell jewelry and pottery outside the ruins.
