At sunrise, I thought about getting up to shake Bill awake - he and David wanted to get out way early. But I didn't, and
fifteen minutes later, he was audibly awake anyway. I think I actually fell asleep for an hour after that!
When Stella and Frank got up, Bill and David were gone, and we leisurely had breakfast. It was Bill and David's big day.
In other years, twice before, they had made attempts to reach the top of Mount Conness, but never made it. Last time, the
narrow climb to "The Gap" was covered in ice and snow and impassable. This year, we'd heard, the way was clear for them to finally become Connesseurs.
So - they attacked it at daybreak.
We, instead, had breakast and eventually drove out to the camp site where Bill and Dave had started from five or six hours earlier,
intending to meet them in midst their way back.
On this day, more than any other,
Bill's photos are of prime inportance. I will reference
them again later.
