But in those ten minutes, Stella drives up a hairpin on Old Mammoth Rd and comes to a dead stop as a big, brown black bear is standing there sideways in the middle of the road! Bill and I struggle to get our cameras out of their cases and get them ready, while Stella creeps the car forwards, and the bear nonchalantly saunters off across the road. Unfortunately, this photo of Bill's is the best we managed to get of him; I was only able to capture his latter half. A very rare opportunity missed*. From then on, our cameras have been always ready for action. -F.
