Mammoth Trip, 2022

June 28

Carson Project

The climb begins in earnest. We begin climbing the talus field. I used to love this stuff, and I still enjoy this part of the hike. As long as it's uphill, talus is fun, but it requires a lot of care and attention. -F.

This is my first talus field since we started rock climbing at the gym. I used to always wear leather belay gloves on talus to protect my hands. This time I leave them off, enjoying the feel of the rock, now that I know how to grip it; I press my skin into the rough surface and the grip is solid. Worlds better than with gloves! -F.
