Mammoth Trip, 2022

September 25

Chocolate Peak

Bill has been been pushing for the last few weeks for an attempt on Cloudripper on the Class 2 route, some 20 km with 1200 m elevation gain, something we hadn't really approached in our training. Had he insisted, I would have been willing to try, but I argued that we should save it for the Spring when days are longer, and he agreed. I was also leaning more towards an attempt on the shorter Class 3 West Chute, but feel pretty unsure that it's a better option. There are varying route descriptions. Most will wind you up in Class 4 terrain, either accidentally, or by design. Jo's route has a short Class 4 section but with good hands and feet.

I have my doubts whether we can muster the endurance, but there was a time when we would have been capable of it.
