We decided to at least scramble up to the anchor bolts, taking the anchor and rope along, so we could at least look at the situation, and if we didn't take too long, we could still get in a route or two.

We should have just hugged the cliff, but the diagram in the guide book suggested a wider approach. I led and headed for what looked like the ledge at the top of the cliff. It was a long, steep, involved scramble, avoiding cacti like this one. Later, on the descent, I accidently grabbed one and wound up with spines in the palm of my hand, one of which is still in there. -F.
