We got out of bed on schedule, but with little sleep in the tank, and went through the motions of our morning rituals: coffee, stretching, breakfast, checking the gear, filling the reservoirs, packing, dressing. The nervous tension that had been building for days reached its climax. As Bill said, it felt like we were going to our execution.

When we met on schedule in the Lake George parking lot with Jo with Gerry, the tension broke and the welcome sense of adventure set in. But it was cold! We weren't used to that. -F.
