The approach is just 2.5 km from Lake George and more than half the total elevation gain happens before you even get to the base. The last part of this was to be over a talus field which we were not looking forward to - we imagined clambering over a big pile of rocks, which is fun, but energy sapping and time consuming. Instead we found an easily navigated dirt trail to follow between the rocks. -F.
