Now I did use an auto-block. I just feel better controlling both brakes myself! The auto-block locks up and catches you all by itself if you let go of the brake line below you.

This was Bill's first rappel, and he made some mistakes, including instinctively letting go of the brake line to grab at hand holds on the wall. WIthout an auto-block, it was Gerry's fireman's belay that caught him.

This wasn't my first rappel, but I still like my auto-block! -F.
