We drove to the waterfront, walked along the river, and visited the big Arch. I could not help thinking of McDonald's. Then we headed to Kansas City, where we met Frank at the airport. The next day, Sid would fly back to New York while Frank and Stella continued into Kansas. I was glad to see Frank, but sorry to end the trip with Dad. Frank here - and I shall be hosting the remainder of this narrative. As everybody knows, traveling through Missouri and Kansas, the Great Plains, farm (or rather industrial agriculture) country, is rather monotonous but if you bear with us, things will get more interesting in a couple of days. I was also very happy to see Stella and Sidney, and pleased they'd had a good trip. Though I'd expected we'd spend the next day in Kansas City with Sid, he'd booked an early flight, and I didn't get to see him very long. The next morning after a Holiday Inn Express "breakfast" which can perhaps best be described as farce - fake food in a plastic Romper Room with screeching kids and a wide screen tv doodling cartoons to the stench of chlorine, we parted ways with Sid, who got on a shuttle to the airport, and we packed our stuff together, I acquainted myself with the Saab, and we drove through Kansas City, of which we tired quickly and headed out to the highway. |
