'Inside the Rock' is the meaning of the original Diné word Tséyi' which, Hispanified, became the
name of the Canyon de Chelly (pron. Shay-yee). The Canyon De Chelly National Monument encompasses the three canyons de Chelly, del Muerto, and Monument, all cut by waters flowing off the Chuska Mountains to the East. The 130 square miles (335 km2) of the Park are Navajo Tribal Trust Lands. |
