Walnut Canyon
October 19, 2008

This canyon was inhabited by the Sinagua, named by the Spanish for the - to them - strange fact that water did not flow from the mountains year round. The Sinagua existed in this region from the 7th century CE to the 15th. They do not obviously appear to be related to neighboring peoples, the Pueblo peoples or their Anasazi ancestors, even though they likewise inhabited pit houses and cliff dwelling pueblos. The Sinagua built sprawling pueblo complexes which housed hundreds of people.
