The Grand Canyon lies at the Southern end of the Colorado Plateau, the Rocky Mountains to the North. Precipitation in the Rockys drain through the Colorado River into the Bay of California. At one time, the Colorado River cut part of the Eastern Grand Canyon, then headed North into Utah. By conjecture, at that time, there were two Colorado Rivers - the above-mentioned upper and the lower, originating to the West, and altering its bed over time until the two converged to assume their modern bed. |
