Visiting Heiner in Groß Glienike

Heiner and I walked from his place in Groß Glienike near Potsdam around the Groß Glieniker See through the "Landstadt" Gatow to the edge of Gatow Air Field, the defunct Royal Air Force base.

This residential community was stamped out of the ground in the early 2000s to house employees of the German government after its move from Bonn to Berlin. But nobody came. So housing development was opened up to the general public, and infrastructure developed targeted particularly at families with small children. The results are an odd mix of architectural styles but as yet virtually devoid of life.
