Mono Basin: Mono Craters

Bill had had a particular goal in mind for this hike: a small, nameless, smooth, hangar-shaped mountain. But what we agreed on at the start was to go a certain distance, stop, and then confer as to whether to turn around or continue on.

We piled into the van, drove a short way, crossing the main road, and soon thereafter parked in a turnout on a sandy dirt road. Bill didn't want to drive too far on this surface. Better not to risk getting stuck.
