I have my direct belay set up, though it took a bit to get the ATC oriented the right way around. It's rather confusing at first being tied in with a figure eight on your harness belay loop on the brake side, while the climber's rope goes down, not up, and in the case, the brake hand is the left hand, not the right. Jo is directing me in getting into the rhythm of taking in slack without letting go with the brake hand, and draping the ropes in big bights evenly left and right of the rope I'm tethered on. -F.
