Gloria Palast

Yet another shadow (if even that) of its former glorious self. In its original location next door, the luxurious Gloria Palast was housed in the neobaroque Romani House constructed in 1924-25, with seven stairwells, conversation dens, mirrored and silk-walled halls, crystal chandeliers and buffets, and accommodation for 1200 moviegoers.

The cinema was destroyed in a bombing run in 1943.

The Gloria Palast was rebuilt in 1948 where its shell now still stands, and was home to the Berlinale.

In 1998 the theater closed and a jeans shop moved in. The foyer and the sign are protected as historical monuments.
