Berliner Bauakademie

Building Academy

Another reconstruction venture that seems to me perhaps a little more meaningful is that of the Bauakademie, here photographed in mock-up. The Bauakademie was designed and built by one of the most prolific architects of Prussia, Karl Friedrich Schinkel, whose hand can be seen all around the city.

It had been a center of study particularly in architecture, but other areas as well, and eventually spawned the Technische Universität. It was severely damaged during World War 2, and eventually demolished to make room for an East German government ministry.
