Mammoth Trip, 2017

September 09

Sonora Pass (East)

From the West Fork Walker River parking lot to the Pass took 89 minutes, just under my target. I rode fairly hard, but tried not to kill myself on Day Zero. Bill was driving down the hill in the other direction and we met somewhere on the flatter middle section. We exchanged greetings by radio, and Stella also chimed in her location. It's a tough climb with steep grades, though I doubt that the signs proclaiming 25% are accurate. It was cold at the Pass, and I was glad to have dragged warm layers up the hill. I wasn't freezing when I got back to the car, but glad to get back in the car. Stella drove the entire way to Mammoth. -F.
