Peccato DiVino
Divine wordplay!
Divine sin doesn't quite do it justice.
As you might divine from the sign, this is a wine shop. But note the ambivalence of
peccato, which is perhaps closer in meaning to the German Pech than Sünde,
which is the English sin. Both are valid possible translations from the Italian,
where one implies guilt, the other "bad luck", though there is no discernable etymological link between
Pech (literally "pitch", as in "tar"), and peccato - and these opposing poles resonate simultaneously.
Enjoy your wine!
(It's just bad luck we can't all be saints!)
