Mammoth Trip, 2018

Lookout Peak

I've reached what isn't quite the bottom, and have moved out of the way to wait for Stella. There were some short sections steep enough that one could not stop sliding, but these didn't go very far, nor did they carry us over any lips down long drops. I had taken a look up this chute in the morning to see if it were a viable climb. It didn't look easy or fun, but I hadn't seen any major obstacles, either. -F.

I very much felt my smallness and insignificance in this vast funnel. But there was no alternative. Watching Frank's descent, seeing that he was OK, helped me control my fear.--S.
